Introduction
I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist with over ten years’ experience of working with individuals and couples. I trained as a psychodynamic psychotherapist at MHCPC, London and hold a Certificate in Psychosexual Studies from Tavistock Relationships.
Counsellors and therapists who are members of BACP are ethically bound to maintain client confidentiality, to offer objective insight and understanding and to respect and value diversity.
Before moving to Suffolk I worked in private practice in London. My NHS experience encompasses three years as an Honorary Psychotherapist at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust as part of the Fitzjohn’s Unit, a specialist unit for patients with complex needs. Prior to that, two years as an Honorary Counsellor for an NHS GP surgery in Islington.
My background working at board level in the national media and with leading arts organisations gives me a particular understanding of the inherent pressures and challenges of these industries.
Why Therapy?
There are many reasons why people from all walks of life seek therapy. Frequent triggers are anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, bereavement, work problems, expected or unexpected life changes. Some people find they are experiencing general feelings of uncertainty or distress. Others may find an event highlighted in the mainstream or on social media might disturb emotions that have remained dormant since childhood.
Talking to a therapist in a safe, confidential environment can enable difficult feelings and situations to be confronted and resolved. Being heard properly for the first time can often be an important first step on a successful therapeutic journey.
My practice offers long-term (often referred to as 'open-ended') and short-term (often referred to as 'fixed term') therapy.
